Twisted Games Book by Ana Huang

  Review

If you’re a fan of royalty and bodyguard romances, then this Twisted book is for you! The second installment in Huang’s Twisted series follows Bridget, Princess of Eldorra, as she finishes up college. With her long-time bodyguard retiring, Bridget must navigate growing pains with her new bodyguard, Rhys. Used to having a good amount of freedom, Bridget immediately finds herself butting heads with her new companion. Meanwhile, Rhys is taken aback by how much Bridget's security has been overlooked. He needs this job and is determined to keep her safe, complicating matters further with Bridget’s royal duties and their mutual struggle to fight their growing feelings.

I think this was actually my first bodyguard romance, and it did NOT disappoint. Full disclosure: this is my least favorite of the series, which might be a hot take since many consider it their favorite. Still, I absolutely LOVED the book. It gave me some *Princess Diaries* vibes, only more adult, with Bridget knowing she was a princess from the start. The little ways Rhys shows his affection are swoon-worthy, and let’s not forget the crawling scene—holy steam! Maybe it’s because Rhys seems the most sane and stable of the Twisted men, which made him less appealing to me, but I loved the book regardless. If you’re looking for a royal romance with twists and turns, don’t sleep on this one!

Bridget and Rhys start off with a bumpy relationship, as he comes across as cold, grumpy, and overbearing while she doesn’t take her security seriously and craves freedom. This leads to constant arguments, but they eventually develop a more tolerable relationship and try to hide their growing attraction to maintain professionalism. Everything changes when Bridget's brother, the next in line for the throne, decides to abdicate for love, leaving Bridget next in line—a position she never wanted. This adds even more complexity to their relationship. Their romance is a slight slow burn, but the wait isn’t long. The author delivers plenty of spice, with sizzling chemistry and steamy scenes that any smut reader would crave. I loved Bridget's character and her growth into a leader; she faced challenges head-on and stood up for what she believed was right. Her insecurities and feelings of grief made her relatable, too. Rhys embodies the ideal book boyfriend—tall, dark, handsome, and with a dirty mouth. He knows how to please Bridget while being fierce against anyone who threatens her.

The writing effectively immerses you in the characters' experiences without being hard to follow. While there are some repetitive phrases, they don’t detract from the overall enjoyment. The pacing is well done, avoiding any dragging or rushing. My favorite part had to be their Costa Rica trip, and I enjoyed the twists surrounding Rhys's parentage and the mystery of the leaked pictures. I highly recommend this book to all spicy contemporary romance lovers. I’m looking forward to reading the third book next!
